My Pink Website Idea
Color research
My first reaction when I chose the color pink for my website was the image it represents to me as soft and feminine. On doing some online research I was surprised to find out that this color has been
used to symbolize masculine themes, it has been the barer of bad news, the ‘pink slip,’ and played a part in genocide in the Nazi Camps in World War 2. Here are some examples:
The Nazis distinguished the homosexual prisoner- of -war by making them wear an upside down pink triangle on their clothes .Later that triangle right side up was the symbol for gay pride.
In Japan, the annual blooming of the cherry trees, with their pink blossoms are said to represent the young fallen Samurai warriors.
The city of Jaipur in India has a “Pink City,’ which the color Symbolizes “welcome.”
And it is said that some sports team use Pink painted locker rooms for their opposing teams as the color is supposed to have tranquilizing effects on its viewers.
My research finally lead me to the National Gallery’s website: www.nationalgallery.org.uk Where I fell in love with the 'Madonna of the Pinks,' (La Madonna dei Garofani),painted by Raphael by 1506, which recently became popular again. The painting is religious of course, but the subjects in this work are not stiff and unloving as in similar works of that era, you can see the bond of mother and child and the unconditional love that radiates from the canvas.
My website is going to be about 'The Art Of Breast Feeding,' and I will stick to my original idea of femininity etc..

Two Sites I Don't think are successful
Disney Pixar
I went to this site expecting a lot more animation and use of flash technology, but nothing moves! The site has just
stills of the movies, no trailers or anything. The only interactive thing is in the "How we do it " section. The user presses a button on a toy TV, and you can see the animation process, but I found that boring after a few tries./www.pixar.com
City's Best Merchants.com
This site is suppose to be a site that lists the best of the businesses in a certain city. I use to work selling ads so if you tell me something is the "Best," I expect a lot. I think the site looks 'cheesy', I hate the sweepstakes but understand why it is there. The colors they used on the site are like bad cartoons, and there,s a typo in the main text.citysbestmerchants.com/

The two websites I consider Successful
Monoface.com
This website is created by an agency. I like it because it is very clean and simple. The fun part is that the user gets to change the face by pressing any feature, 'click', and it changes again. The face 'parts' are personalized
so I assume its collages of people who actually work there. The website claims that there are 759,375 different possible combinations of faces to make, if you have the time and interest.

FaceBook.com
I was not a facebook fan I thought it was creepy at first, until I made my own profile and one for my website.
I found it easy to use and although I don't post much, I can follow my friends all over the world, avoiding
a phone call. For my website page I visited 30 baby related facebook pages, I now get all their news and updates, so when I invite my interested moms on to the page they can get all the expert opinions on one page.
I also notice that facebook changes daily, they are always trying new things, and are concerned with privcy.
I get flyers from the supermarkets each tuesday, and this week I noticed most of the stores don't put their
website address any more, they just have people follow them. I predict that a lot of people and some
businesses won't even bother with a website pretty soon. If you learn how to attract people to your page
you can engage them and pretty soon they will buy your product. /www.facebook.com/

Why I Want To Take' Designing for the World Wide Web.'
I am a Doula and last year I had a friend make me a website, and basically, because I am not artistic and because I didn't have time, (too busy working) nothing got done with it. This summer I got laid off, and haven't found a new job yet, so I decided to take some classes. My goal is to learn how to make my website functional and attractive. Eventually I would also like to turn it into a business, so I could work from home.
